the layout becomes proportional;
the drawing looks harmonious in it;
not as big a waste of time as not using it.
What does a modular grid look like?
There is no point in describing the appearance of the grid in the text. It is much better to simply see it visually.
On the left is just an empty grid, in the middle is the text pasted onto that grid, and on the right is the final design.

Is it possible to do without a grid?
You can do without it, but it will be inconvenient to work with. For example, how can you determine by eye the size between 2 parallel blocks on a resource page? How to find the correct location of the title, banner and main text? How to find the optimal empty space?
It will be very difficult to make such calculations by eye. Page elements will have uneven indents and distances between blocks. Such a design can hardly be called beautiful, and the usability of such a page will leave much to be desired: the user will not be able to immediately find the necessary information. Predictability of the position of blocks on the page is needed, and this will simply not happen.
The modular grid allows you to bring the layout to a single standard that will be understandable to any user. The grid will indicate the height and width. The size of the images should simply match these parameters.
