According to the Invesp infographic, there are 7 reasons why online shoppers abandon the purchasing process in an eCommerce store.

Below I will review each one, along with the action proposals to resolve them:

1. High shipping costs (44%); the store does not clearly mention the shipping costs (22%)
This is the famous “elephant in the room”: everyone knows it is there and that it is a problem, but it is not always easy to solve. And this elephant keeps growing and becoming a bigger and bigger problem.

Today, services like Amazon Prime remove shipping costs entirely from shoppers' radars, while Google Shopping allows users to filter results based on stores that offer free shipping.

This means that those sites that still have shipping costs are given a thumbs down .

What can you do?
Assuming that if you could offer free shipping you would, here are some options:

Offer matching credit. Give your customers a cash amount or percentage discount on future purchases that is equivalent to the shipping costs.
It will still cost you, but it will encourage customers to return, so the cost is deferred. As long as they return, they will enjoy the equivalent of free shipping .

Go ahead and take the plunge. OK, this isn't really a solution, but given how much buyers value free shipping, and how pervasive it is in the market, it may be less expensive to absorb the cost than to lose the business.
With this action you will be eliminating one more point from the long list that includes the reasons why buyers abandon the purchasing process.
