What is unemployment insurance and who is entitled to it?

Who is entitled to unemployment insurance?
Have been dismissed without just cause;
Are unemployed when applying for the benefit;
Having received salaries from a legal entity or an individual equivalent to a legal entity (registered with the CEI) relating to:
at least 12 (twelve) months in the last 18 (eighteen) months immediately prior to the date of dismissal, when first requested;
at least 9 (nine) months in the last 12 (twelve) months immediately prior to the date of dismissal, when the second request is made;
each of the 6 (six) months immediately prior to the date of dismissal, when making other requests;
Not having your own income not only to support yourself, but also your family;
Not receiving continued benefit from Social Security, except for a survivor's pension or accident benefit;
People who perform domestic work and who were dismissed without just cause;
People who have been rescued from conditions analogous to slavery;
Professional fishermen during the so-called closed season, when fishing activity is halted so that species can be preserved;
Formal workers (i.e., with a formal employment record) who have their employment contract suspended to allow participation in a professional qualification program or course provided by the company.
Deadline for requesting the benefit
And what is the deadline to apply for unemployment insurance ? Let's look at the various possibilities for this request and the time frame for each one.

Formal worker: from the 7th to the 120th day after the date of dismissal.
Artisanal fisherman: during the closed season, within 120 days of the start of the ban.
Domestic employee: from the 7th to the 90th day, counting from the date of dismissal. Employee on leave for qualification: during the suspension of the employment contract.
Rescued worker: up to the 90th day, counting from the date of rescue.
But it is necessary to pay close attention to the deadlines, because if they are not respected the worker may lose access to the benefit.

How to calculate the value of unemployment insurance?
Currently, to calculate unemployment insurance, follow the rules listed below.

Add up the last three salaries received
Divide the total amount by 3
Check the 2025 unemployment insurance table (below) to find out the calculation corresponding to your salary range.

As we saw in the previous topic, the value of Unemployment Insurance varies according to the worker's average salary. Furthermore, this calculation is made taking into account the last three salaries prior to dismissal.

According to the 2025 table, beneficiaries can receive as part of their unemployment insurance :

Average salary range up to R$2,041.39, multiply the average salary by 0.8
Anything exceeding R$2,041.40 to R$3,402.65 is multiplied by 0.5 and added to R$1,633.10.
Above R$ 3,402.65, the value will be unchanged at R$ 2,313.74
