Each episode of the special, collectively known as the "Treehouse of Horror", is made up of several hilarious Halloween-inspired shorts.

These are stories in which the residents of Springfield interact with supernatural beings or find themselves in other horrific situations. Of course all of these specials are great to watch but season six's "Treehouse of Horror" tends to be a fan favorite. Dan Castellaneta's Homeric voice fills the air with The Shining as he takes care of Mr. Burns' summer estate. The second short is a satire of Ray Bradbury's Thunderbolt and last but not least the third short revolves around Nancy Cartwright's Bart as she discovers the horrifying truth behind the food in the Springfield Elementary School cafeteria.
