With Google, you never get scared. This week, many SEOs have woken up to a surprise in the SERPs, seeing how their websites had changed positions without any apparent explanation. When something like this happens, everyone tends to think the same thing: there's a new Google algorithm change.

Google confirmed this on Twitter in its signature “all good, keep moving” style:

Each day, Google typically releases one or more changes designed to improve our results. Some are focused on specific improvements. Some are broad changes. Last week, we released a broad core algorithm update. We do this routinely several times a year.

As with any update, some sites may see drops or gains. There's nothing wrong with pages that may now perform worse. Instead, changes to our systems are benefiting pages that were previously undervalued.

There is no “fix” for pages that may be truemoney database other than staying focused on creating great content. Over time, your content may rise in the rankings relative to other pages.

What is the Google update?
Google’s message doesn’t clarify much about the purpose and effects of this “broad change,” but here’s what we know so far, based on Google’s own words and industry research:

The update seeks to offer better results to search engines (I mean, like all of them)
According to Google, it is about rewarding sites that were undervalued for some reason, not punishing anyone.
There is no problem with the sites that lost positions, they have not been penalized.
Therefore there is no way to “correct” the negative effects of change.
So it seems that the algorithm change benefits high-quality websites rather than punishing poor ones. But you know, someone moving up to number one means someone else moving down to number two.

The fact that nothing can be done if you have dropped in rankings is only half true. It is true that there is no magic solution like removing toxic links. You can only recover lost ground by creating quality content that answers your audience's questions better than your competitors.
