E-commerce, business growth
E -commerce is the evolution of business , as it is always in constant growth, which over the years has been extremely exponential mainly thanks to the globalization of the Internet. This is where large companies begin to make their sales online.

This phenomenon began to increase and, since then, it was possible to visualize that electronic commerce would be the fundamental pillar of the future of sales for companies.

When this trend of online shopping began, most purchases were made on a computer at home, but multi-device purchases have quickly increased, and in recent years the mobile device has become the preferred choice for consumers.

Thanks to applications that make browsing, searching for a instagram database we want and even the payment method easier today, everything can now be done from a mobile phone, with just a couple of clicks.

In Spain, this sales channel is becoming more and more important every year. This evolution has accelerated during the pandemic period, during which the increase has been exponential.

The importance of startups
The great work that startups have done in recent years has allowed for great technological advances and also new ways of innovating, which have led to an evolution of e-commerce in different areas, starting with their innovative websites or sales apps, moving on to payment systems that are increasingly more consumer-friendly and innovating with solutions for the client. All these factors have allowed e-commerce to be strengthened and the business to evolve exponentially in a systematic way.

One of the big bets for startups is to boost this channel and invest in talent. In short, it is a revolution in the way of buying and interacting with companies.

When we talk about e-commerce, it is difficult not to mention the two giants of this world: Amazon and Alibaba , which have allowed a paradigm shift in the way of making sales to consumers and, above all, the tremendous speed to innovate and adapt to the times we live in today.

These two e-commerce giants have set the bar very high for all conventional retailers and have also changed the way conventional retailers think and shop outside their comfort zone.

This has also led many companies focused on the traditional market to reconsider their business lines and adapt to the current state of the market.

Many companies with physical businesses or traditional markets are displaying items that they sell online but not offline.

What's next for e-commerce?
The automation of purchasing processes will become increasingly limited, making the purchasing process much simpler and more interactive.

The pandemic has accelerated e-commerce, achieving a business evolution , reaching consumers in a large way.

According to studies, the number of e-commerce consumers in Spain has increased by more than 50%. If we think about this type of consumer, many of them were reluctant to do so before the pandemic because they needed a face-to-face experience.

A point of reference is e-commerce live streaming , which has revolutionised e-commerce in recent months. It is the live sale of products, where a person sells products via a live stream through different platforms. This phenomenon has already reached 10% of all e-commerce sales in China, to give an example.

We will also continue to see growth in the scheduled purchasing process that we already see in some white goods such as refrigerators, where we will be able to place connected orders based on shortages.

It is already a reality that is growing every day, also driven by the large amount of data that systems manage today, allowing us to schedule our purchases according to our needs.

Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence such as Machine Learning will be in constant evolution and great advances and solutions will be achieved for clients.

The profits will increase dramatically and we will most likely be able to try on clothes in virtual stores, find out what a perfume smells like and reach consumers in all categories of products and services.

E-commerce in Spain
As has been mentioned before, in Spain in particular, the time taken to make a purchase online has been greatly shortened. If three years ago, we were given the option of making a purchase online or in a traditional way, a large majority of the population would choose the traditional method, but today the situation has changed.

Below we detail essential data in Spain:

According to Google, with a 41% increase in sales, Spain is one of the countries that has best addressed e-commerce.
It is estimated that between 35% and 45% of the online growth that has occurred will be consolidated once the pandemic is over.
With digital sales growth ranging from 75% to 140%.
The INE indicated that the percentage of the population that made purchases online in 2020 grew in all age groups. The largest increases occurred among those aged 35 to 44 (up 9.3 points) and those aged 45 to 54 (up 9.1 points).
This is evidenced by the 36% of consumers who have purchased from an online store that they had not visited before COVID-19 broke out and the 83% of users who have used online banking apps or websites.
As to whether this digital acceleration is here to stay, the answer is yes, at least in part. Google, based on different data, estimates that between 35% and 45% of the growth that has occurred in Spain will be consolidated once the pandemic is over.
All these advances have materialized in a 130% increase in digital sales compared to those recorded a year earlier.
