Principles and rules of verbal communication

There are several basic principles for building verbal communication.

The principle of cooperation (“the requirement for opponents to perform actions in accordance with the goals and direction of the conversation”) requires the following rules to be followed:

communication includes the optimal amount of information (communication must be brought into line with the set goals; unnecessary information can be a distraction or misleading);

statements must be truthful;

Demonstrate a friendly attitude towards the interlocutor and use respectful turns of speech.

Do not try to impose your opinion no matter what. When differences of opinion on a certain issue become obvious, it is necessary to find an optimal solution to prevent the development of a dispute or the imposition of a point of view.

Messages must be logical and consistent. Individual statements must not contradict what was said earlier.

When opening a topic, it should be taken into account that the interlocutor may not have a full understanding of all the details, so you cannot use ambiguous wording that could be misinterpreted.

Use unambiguous, concise and short sentences. You cannot use ornate phrases that overload your speech.

The message must be truthful, without exaggeration or embellishment. Inaccurate or unverified data should not be used.

Phrases should be constructed taking into account the nationality of the interlocutor, his age, social status and other features. Otherwise, you may inadvertently offend the opponent.

The ability to listen without interrupting the interlocutor is a very important skill of verbal communication. Only after the opponent has finished his thought, take a short pause and calmly express your thoughts.
