What does Google say about subdomains vs. subdirectories?

Post by sharminsumu »

It's almost as if the content hosted on the subdomain is hosted on a completely different domain when it comes to ranking, and looking at it that way can really help clarify things.

While this may not seem like a good thing, sometimes it makes perfect sense for a subdomain to be considered a separate entity from the main domain, especially when the subdomains should be considered to represent separate companies or divisions.

Often, a subdomain is linked (either through a navigation menu or internal links ) to the main domain, but sometimes it is not. This is a key factor in deciding which path to take when setting up your site (or a new section of it).

The question is certainly not that subdirectories are good for ukraine telegram number database SEO and subdomains are not. It's not that simple.

But we need to understand where the different recommendations come from and where they stand in relation to Google's advice.

In the video below, Google's John Mueller detailed the subdomain vs. subdirectory debate in a 2017 video. This advice is still relevant today.

Searching the web via Google works well whether you use subdomains or subdirectories.
