Note: Don’t capitalize everything. Subject lines that use only people’s names are most likely to end up in the spam folder. But used occasionally, capital letters have the power to grab a reader’s attention.
5. Personalize Your Email Subject Line
Using personalization is another great way to make your subject line stand out. One with personality will definitely do better than one without. At Betaout, we conducted a study: We sent over 1,000 emails, half with personality and half without personality. The one with personality had a 24% higher open rate than the other. However, if you don’t want to use the subscriber’s name in the subject line, you can use conversational words (like you, yours) that will make your customers feel unique.
The following email from Fabric.com is an example:
Clarity rules. Remember, people only glance at your email before deciding whether to open it or ignore it – so the clearer and more concise your subject line is, the better. However, a clear subject line alone won’t help you stand out in a crowded inbox. To grab someone’s attention, you need to polish your subject line. You need to make it more appealing and exclusive. Remember, people tend to open emails that look like they were created just for them.
Check out how DSW, a shoe retailer, uses this approach:
The reason DSW’s subject line caught my eye was because it was personalized. And by personalized, I don’t mean my name (although using that is definitely a good idea). It’s so targeted and relevant that it can only please the recipient. When you have a subject line that resonates, it gets people to open it.
Don’t wait for someone to open your email and then look for what it says. Let your subject line reveal your intentions right away.
Data-driven personalization is the best way to make your emails highly relevant. When you give people something they are interested in, they will open your emails. User data can do this. Here are some examples of how to use user data to write a subject line that will inspire interest:
When I added a product to my Gilt Wishlist, my Wishlist italy telegram number database became user data available to Gilt, so I received this email from Gilt.
Hotwire Deals sent me this email when I searched for hotels in Paris on their website.
In the above examples, site search was also available user data, and data is often valued when writing subject lines. If you haven't used data before, start today.
8. Send permission-based emails
Finally... make sure you only send emails to people who are interested in receiving emails. Because no matter if you use every tip above, if your emails don't reach the right inboxes, all your efforts will fail. And don't forget to update your email list regularly, because it expires at a rate of 25% per year.
These tips can improve your email open rates. But the only way to know for sure is to test and measure.
Use the power of data to stand out
