What to Provide to a New Employer if You Can't Get a Letter of Recommendation from Your Old Job

Errors and inappropriate information in letters of recommendation

Recommendations are issued either by the employee's immediate supervisor or the HR department. There are still certain problems with this in our country, since the tradition of issuing letters of recommendation in Russia has not yet taken hold. In addition, issuing such a letter may be physically impossible - for example, the company has moved or closed down altogether.

In such cases, the only option left for the employee who has resigned is to independently collect the available documents that can at least partially confirm their work experience. We will list them below:

A copy of the employment contract.

Copies of pay slips.

They are usually issued by the peru email list accounting department upon dismissal. Otherwise, the employee must ask the accountant for the sheets after some time. In addition, they can also issue a 2-NDFL certificate. It can also replace missing pay slips. Or you should go to the bank where the salary account is opened and ask for a certificate with account transactions. This document will clearly show that the funds received are wages.

Certificate from work.

It is drawn up on the company's letterhead, the text is written in any form. However, the content of such a paper is usually quite vague. The employer limits himself, for example, to such a laconic phrase: "Mikhail Ivanovich Petrov really worked at OOO Svyazist during such and such a period." This fact will clearly not be enough to provide it as a recommendation.

The employee who worked with this person needs to describe his position and the duties he performed. Then in the letter he leaves his contact information. However, it should be taken into account that the company has a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Probably, this document prohibits the employee from disclosing his duties, and therefore colleagues will not be able to recommend him.

If the terms of the NDA agreement apply only to employees of the given company, it may be possible to enlist the support of an employee from another organization, provided that the departing employee has repeatedly communicated with him/her on work-related matters.

If you are a manager and your subordinate, when leaving, asks you for a recommendation, do not rush to agree. First of all, evaluate how well you know the person, all his pros and cons both personally and professionally. If, in your opinion, he is worthy of support, feel free to recommend him to a potential employer. In case of the slightest uncertainty about this employee, refuse him a recommendation, because with this document you influence not only your personal reputation, but also the image of the entire company.
