Despite this decision, Google insisted a few months ago that the platform would not be shutting down. The company said in a tweet “Rest assured that we are always working to bring more great games to Stadia.” While this was true (because they were doing it) the platform had come to this point anyway.
Stadia's closure has been imminent for some time now. Rumours about the service's elimination have been gaining momentum.
Last year, the company reduced the number of northeast mobile number database games released on the platform and also closed its internal studios that developed video games.
On the other hand, Gene Park, a video game critic, described the technology as unplayable in a review. Later, he noted that the service had improved, but it was already difficult to recommend it to new users for acceptance.
According to Joost van Dreunen, a professor of gaming business at New York University’s Stern School of Business, he said that Google was “never fully committed” to Stadia and referred to its closure as inevitable. To top it off, Van Dreunen claims that “The entire effort was doomed from its first announcement, because Big Tech sucks at gaming,” referring to large tech companies.
Finally, to further understand where Stadia stands, last week Logitech announced its new cloud gaming handheld, and Stadia was one of the few services not mentioned.
What is the current status of Stadia?
